Past-Present-Future
We can embrace the 21st century and modern technology, but we must keep the traditions and rituals of our ancestors. They must be carried into the future for our descendants. It is internet and computer technology that has allowed most modern researchers, like myself and others, to be able to read documents from as far back as the 800’s, about the northern European tribes. We can find accounts of traditions and rituals that would have been lost. That technology allows us to translate information written down in dead languages. We can read stories and folk tales that used to be common knowledge to our ancestors but have now been lost to time. We can bring their wisdom back into our present so they can be passed down to the next generation and hopefully carried forward again into the future.
We do not have to embrace virtual blots or wear 3D headsets so we can do an Utiseta in a make-believe sacred burial ground in Germany. In this time and age, we can learn these lost skills and make them work for us in our modern world. Science tells us the different plants the ancient seers used to help them journey and speak to the spirits, alive and dead, of the land. Archeology tells us the tools our ancestors used in their everyday lives. But it is the modern technology of the internet that allows us to read their stories and folklore. It is this knowledge that tells us how our ancestors lived. We can read about tools and skills that may still be useful to us today. We do not need to abandon modern conveniences, but we should remain close to the land and work in harmony with it. This is the knowledge that we can regain from the past, use in the present, and carry into the future.
